Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments will I need?

SAFESCULPT liposuction utilizes safe, yet powerful ultrasound energy to melt and permanently remove the fat from the treatment area. Only one treatment is required.

What's happening to my body?

"What's happening to my body?" is one of the most frequently asked questions we hear. Despite efforts to the contrary, many people find they are still gaining weight and inches. The reasons for this are numerous. Some reasons we gain weight are within our control. Some are not. Our bodies are designed to work in balance with nature. These days, many people who come to see us do not feel in balance. Excessive time at work, inadequate time or energy to exercise, constant stress, and poor nutrition are mentioned frequently. People often feel guilty about seeking out liposuction. They shouldn't.

Will I be comfortable during the procedure?

"What's happening to my body?" Patients are very comfortable throughout the SafeSculpt procedure. Melting fat requires the use of small, smooth ultrasound instruments (2mm for the UltraSculpt Ultrasound, 1.5 mm for the Smartlipo laser) . Only small amounts of safe, local anesthetic are required. Patents may elect to have small doses of oral medications as well.

Will my cellulite improve?

Cellulite is caused by both excess fat and fibrous scar tissue. SafeSculpt Laser Liposuction addresses both causes of cellulite. The UltraSculpt ultrasound safely, completely, and permanently removes fat dramatically improving the size and shape of the affected areas. The Smartlipo laser breaks the fibrous bands and stimulates new collagen for smoother, tighter skin. If further improvement is necessary, we can combine laser skin resurfacing with stem cells.

What about other treatments?

Patients frequently come to us with questions regarding other procedures advertised to remove or reduce fat. We have provided consultation to thousands of clients. Our goal is to provide clients with the knowledge to decide what treatments are best for them. We believe that once clients are provided with accurate information, the treatment choice will be clear: SafeSculpt Liposuction.

SafeSculpt liposuction is the only treatment available for immediate and permanent fat removal as well as skin tightening. The powerful, yet gentle, ultrasound and laser technologies used allow for a safe, comfortable procedure. Only local anesthetic is required. Recovery is immediate. We have performed thousands of safe, effective procedures. Patients are extremely satisfied.

Below is a comparison of other currently available treatment options. All of these treatments attempt to affect fat cells through the skin. Fat cells are not destroyed. Some treatments do not affect the fat cells at all. Others only reduce their size temporarily. None of the treatments provide effective skin tightening. All of the treatments require multiple sessions. While some patients report a reduction in size, it is attributed to a temporary redistribution of fluid in the area.

Zerona is described as a “cold laser” which attempts to emulsify (melt) fat cells through the skin. The fat moves into the area between the cells were the body attempts to eliminate it. Because only a very limited amount of energy can be delivered through the skin, fat emulsification is minimal and inconsistent across the treatment area. Multiple treatments are required. Any results are temporary. Skin laxity is not addressed.

Smooth shapes uses a diode light to heat the skin. The theory is that heated fat cells change permeability and allow fat to “leak out.” LED light is used to heat the skin and suction is applied to the skin surface to promote fluid movement in the skin. The effect on fat cells is extremely questionable and leaves the fat cells intact. The heat and vacuum promote water movement between the cells, which may cause a temporary reduction in the size of the treatment area. Multiple treatments are required. No permanent fat destruction is possible. Skin laxity is not addressed.

Ultracavitation uses ultrasound energy to disrupt fat cells. While ultrasound can be effective for disrupting fat cells, it requires direct contact with the fat. Sufficient energy cannot be delivered through the skin to destroy fat cells. Change in treatment area size is attributed primarily to a temporary redistribution of fluid around the treatment area. Multiple treatments are required and any results are not permanent. Skin laxity is not addressed.

Coolsculpt is another “cold laser” technology. The idea is that fat cells are disrupted, causing them to shrink. Because only small amounts of energy can be delivered through the skin, the effect on the fat cells is minimal. Fat cells may be reduced in size; however, this is temporary. “Results” may take months to see. Multiple treatments are required. Skin laxity is not addressed.

Viore uses a combination of radiofrequency and suction to attempt to reduce fat cell volume and promote fluid movement. Radiofrequency through the skin has minimal, if any, effect on fat cells. Heating and suction may create a temporary redistribution of water in the treatment area leading to a short-lived change in size. Consequently, any “benefits” require ongoing “maintenance” procedures.

How long do I need to wear the garment?

Patients are required to wear a provided compression garment for 2-4 weeks.

How much fat can be removed?

Because SAFESCULPT liposuction removes the fat as a liquid, virtually all the fat can be melted and removed from the treatment area.

Will I have pain after the procedure?

Patients generally experience only mild discomfort and some soreness for a day or two after the procedure. SAFESCULPT liposuction melts the fat using small, smooth instruments that do not injure nerves. Because the nerves are unaffected, there is minimal discomfort. 99% of patients require only Tylenol after SAFESCULPT liposuction.

Will the fat go somewhere else?

Fat exists in many places throughout the body. SAFESCULPT can remove fat safely and permanently from many, but not all areas. If caloric intake becomes greater than the body requires, the fat cells in non-treated areas may expand. Before we accept any patient for SAFESCULPT, he/she undergoes a comprehensive health screening. This includes nutritional counseling before and after the procedure.

How many areas can be done at once?

The number of areas that can be treated in one procedure varies by patient size. For the majority of patients we have treated, 6-8 areas can be done safely.

When can I go back to work?

Patients who perform light physical tasks can resume work the next day. Patients whose work requires more strenuous activity are generally encouraged to return in 48 hours and avoid heavy lifting for 1-2 weeks.

How long will the results last?

SAFESCULPT liposuction completely destroys fat cells, providing for permanent removal of the fat in the treated areas. SAFESCULPT liposuction utilizes the Smartlipo laser to promote rapid healing and skin tightening. As we age, we continue to lose collagen. Patients may desire added tissue tightening in 5-7 years.

How quickly will I see results?

The time it takes to see results varies tremendously from patient to patient. Initial results from fat removal are apparent within two weeks. However, final results require the skin to remodel and tighten. This process continues for up to 12 months after the procedure. Most patients realize a significant improvement in size, shape, and skin tightening between months 6-9. Physical exercise, particularly light resistance training, yoga, and Pilates accelerate and improve results by improving muscle tone.

Will the fat come back?

The fat will not return, once an area is treated with SAFESCULPT liposuction. The ultrasonic energy used to melt fat permanently destroys the fat cells in the treatment area.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

SAFESCULPT liposuction is NOT a weight loss procedure. Fat does not weigh much. Fat does occupy a lot of room in the body. SAFESCULPT is a body sculpting procedure. The goal is to change your shape.

Will the fat come back?

I had regular (traditional) liposuction and the fat came back. Will this happen with SAFESCULPT? SAFESCULPT provides a safe, complete, and permanent treatment for removal of unwanted fat. The instruments used in the SAFESCULPT lipolysis procedure are small and smooth. Because there is no damage to blood vessels in the fat, the removal of fat is complete. Traditional liposuction cuts fat and blood vessels. Bleeding and fluid losses prevent complete removal of the fat. The remaining fat can grow over time, reversing the results.

Will I have stitches or drains?

No and no. Traditional liposuction requires large instruments and large incisions. SAFESCULPT melts and removes the fat through small instruments and requires only small (2 mm) incisions. These incisions do not require suturing, and close on their own in 3-4 days. Traditional liposuction cuts fat, nerves and blood vessels. This frequently requires the use of drains after the surgery. Drains are unsightly, uncomfortable, and increase the possibility for infection. SAFESCULPT uses small, smooth instruments that do not cause trauma under the skin, so there is no need for drains.
